Accra



Accra (pop. 965,000), capital and largest city of Ghana, on the Gulf of Guinea. The seaport, founded in the 1600s, was a center of the African slave trade until the mid-1800s. It grew in commercial importance in the 20th century after a railroad linked it with the interior.
