Adder

Adder, common name for several species of venomous and harmless snake found in different parts of the world. Examples are the European viper (Vipera berus) and the puff adder (Bitis arietans) of Africa, deadly members of the viper family, and the hognose snake (genus Heterodon), a harmless species found in North America.
