Aegean Sea

Aegean Sea, arm of the Mediterranean Sea between mainland Greece and Turkey, the heart of the classical Greek world. About 400 mi (640 km) long and 200 mi (320 km) wide, its numerous islands, known as the Grecian Archipelago, include the Sporades, Dodecanese, and Cyclades groups. Islanders live by fishing and tourism; the Aegean also contains deposits of natural gas.
