James Agee



Agee, James (1909–55), U.S. writer whose works include Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (1941), a portrayal of Depression-era white sharecroppers done in collaboration with photographer Walker Evans, and a partly autobiographical novel, A Death in the Family (1957), which won a Pulitzer Prize. Agee was an influential film critic and also wrote screenplays, including The African Queen (1951) and The Night of the Hunter (1955).
