George Antheil
Antheil, George (1900–59), U.S. composer. He studied under Ernest Bloch and brought popular motifs into serious music in works such as Jazz Symphonietta (1926) and the opera Transatlantic (1928–29). In later work he was more traditional, and after World War II he developed a neoclassical style influenced by Igor Stravinsky.
