Ant lion

Ant lion, or doodlebug, larval form of any of several insects of the Myrme-leontidae family that traps ants and other prey in pits dug in sandy soil. It uses its plump, hairy body to dig by backing into the soil in a narrowing spiral path. When prey slides into the pit, the ant lion, hiding under sand at the bottom, kills the prey with its long sharp jaws, and sucks its nourishment from the victim.
