Apple of Sodom

Apple of Sodom (Solanum sodomeum), spiny plant of the nightshade family, native to Palestine, that bears yellow fruit resembling small apples. It is named for the biblical apple of Sodom, which looked tempting but turned to ashes in the mouth.
