Lucius Apuleius

Apuleius, Lucius (c.A.D. 125–185), Latin writer. His Metamorphoses or The Golden Ass is the only complete extant Latin novel. The adventures of the novel's hero, who has been turned into an ass, provide insight into Imperial Roman society.
