Ash

Ash, tree or shrub (genus fraxinus) of the olive family. The hard, elastic wood of the white ash (F. americana) is used for items like mallets and baseball bats; that of the blue ash (F. quadrangulata) for barrel hoops, furniture veneers, and baskets.
