Associated Press (AP), oldest and one of the largest U.S. news agencies (gatherers and distributors of news). Founded in 1848 by 6 New York City newspapers, it now has offices worldwide. The AP is a nonprofit organization financed by subscriptions from member newspapers, periodicals, and broadcasting stations.
