Munich Agreement

Munich Agreement, pact signed Sept. 30, 1938, prior to World War II, forcing Czechoslovakia to surrender its Sudetenland to Nazi Germany. The Sudetenland in western Czechoslovakia contained much of the nation's industry and about 700,000 Czechs. The agreement, which allowed an immediate German takeover, was signed by Hitler, Neville Chamberlain (Britain), Edouard Daladier (France), and Benito Mussolini (Italy). Neither the Czechs nor their Soviet allies were consulted. In Mar. 1939 Hitler occupied the rest of Czechoslovakia.
