Stan(ley) Musial



Musial, Stan(ley) (1920– ), U.S. baseball player. An outfielder and first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals (1941–63), he is acclaimed as one of baseball's great hitters. “Stan the Man” was named the National League's most valuable player 3 times (1943, 46, 48), had a lifetime batting average of .331, hit 475 career home runs, and held the National League record for career hits (3,630) until 1981, when it was topped by Pete Rose. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
