Mohammad Najiabullah

Najiabullah, Mohammad (1948–96), political leader of Afghanistan (1986–93). He was the leader of the People's Democratic Party. With his election to the presidency of the legislative Revolutionary Council (1987) he officially assumed presidency of the nation. His government has consistently been opposed by Muslim factions.
