Avon, name of 2 British rivers. The longer, the Upper Avon, arises in Northamptonshire and flows 96 mi (154 km) past Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon to join the Severn at Tewkesbury. Stratford-upon-Avon was the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
