Irving Babbitt



Babbitt, Irving (1865–1933), U.S. scholar and noted opponent of Romanticism. He led the New Humanism movement in literary criticism, which stressed classical reason and restraint. His works include The New Laokoön (1910) and On Being Creative (1932).
