Baltic States



Baltic States, Baltic coast republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. They became independent in 1917 but were annexed by the USSR in 1940. In the late 1980s, separatist nationalist movements aimed at restoring sovereignty, this was achieved in 1991.
