Simon Newcomb
Newcomb, Simon (1835–1909), U.S. astronomer. He computed new planetary tables whose data were so accurate that they were used for more than 50 years. He was director of the American Nautical Almanac (1877–97) and taught at Johns Hopkins University (1884–94).
