New Haven
New Haven (pop. 530,180), third largest city in Connecticut, a river port leading to Long Island Sound, and the seat of Yale University. New Haven is noted as a cultural center and is important for its varied industrial products. It was founded in 1638 by Puritans from Boston led by John Davenport and Theophilus Eaton.
