Nome
Nome, city and port in western Alaska, on the south coast of the Seward Peninsula overlooking Norton Sound, an arm of the Bering Sea. The city is a commercial and distribution center. Its artificial harbor is open June through Oct. Nome became a boom town after the discovery of gold in 1898. It was incorporated as a city in 1901.
