Norfolk Island
Norfolk Island, Australian territory in the South Pacific, between New Caledonia and New Zealand. Tourism is the small island's chief industry. The first European on the island was James Cook (1774). It was used as a penal colony, 1788–1814 and 1825–1856. Descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers relocated there from Pitcairn Island in 1856.
