Novi Sad



Novi Sad (pop. 170,000), city in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, transportation center and capital of the autonomous region of Vojvodina, in the Serbian republic. Located on the Danube River and the Belgrade-Budapest railway line, Novi Sad has many cultural institutions serving an ethnically diverse population including Hungarians, Serbs, Croats, and Romanians. Its industries include food processing, textiles, milling, and electrical equipment.
