Nuremberg

Nuremberg (pop. 494,000), historic city of Bavaria, southwestern Germany, on the Pegnitz River. Founded in the 11th century, it became a cultural and trading center in the Middle Ages and was the first city to accept the Reformation. Hitler staged annual rallies here in the 1930s and proclaimed anti-Jewish laws in 1934. Now a major manufacturing city, it was the scene of war crimes trials following World War II.
