Ocean

Ocean, combined area of interconnected water that covers about 71% of the earth's surface. The salt waters of the earth are divided into 4 main oceans: the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Arctic. Scientists are interested in the food and mineral resources of the oceans. Marine biologists concentrate on the study of the food chain, the distribution of plankton, fish, and aquatic mammals, and the effects of pollution on marine life.
