Ode

Ode, stately lyric poem usually expressing praise. It is often addressed to the person, object, or concept (such as Joy or Autumn) being celebrated. It originated in the ancient Greek choral songs. Pindar used a three-part structure in his odes; strophe, antistrophe (both in the same meter), and epode (in a different meter). Horace's odes were in stanzaic form. English poets of the 19th century, such as John Keats and Percy Shelley, wrote odes with irregular structures.
