Georgia O'Keeffe



O'Keeffe, Georgia (1887–1986), U.S. painter noted for her delicate, abstract designs incorporating symbolic motifs drawn from nature such as Cow's Skull, Red, White, and Blue (1931). She is also known for sexually symbolic flower paintings such as Black Iris (1926). Her paintings were first exhibited in 1916 by photographer Alfred Stieglitz. She was greatly influenced by the geography of the American southwest and was an early settler of the artistic community in Taos, New Mexico.
