Laurence Olivier

Olivier, Laurence (1907–89), English actor, producer, and director. Immensely versatile and brilliant in classical as well as modern stage roles, such as John Osborne's The Entertainer (1957), he also acted in such films as Wuthering Heights (1939) and Hamlet (1948; Academy Award). He was director of Britain's National Theatre (1962–72).
