Olympia
Olympia (pop. 161,238), capital of Washington state since 1853, on the southern side of Puget Sound, within sight of Mt. Rainier. The western terminus of the Old Oregon cattle trail, Olympia was founded in 1848, incorporated in 1859. Shipbuilding, food processing, lumber milling, and refining are major industries in Olympia.
