Ophthalmia



Ophthalmia, disease of the eye tissue, extremely serious and usually occurring from a wound, poison, or contamination, although it can also be acquired through birth. Sympathetic ophthalmia results when the unaffected eye responds to the affected one, causing disease in both eyes.
