Orestes
Orestes, in Greek mythology, son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. Orestes killed his mother and her lover, Aegisthus, after they murdered Agamemnon. Thereafter, the Furies, goddesses of vengeance, harassed Orestes. Fleeing to Athens, he was purified and found innocent of the killings by a jury.
