Orkney Islands

Orkney Islands, group of about 70 islands north of Scotland, of which they are part. Their total area is 376 sq mi (974 sq km) but fewer than half are inhabited. The climate is mild and the soil fertile. Farming is the chief activity (grains, sheep, cattle, poultry), and there is some fishing.
