Pacific scandal



Pacific scandal (1873), corruption charges against Canadian prime minister John Macdonald. In 1872 he awarded a contract to build the Canadian Pacific Railway to Sir Hugh Allan, who had financed his 1872 election campaign. Denying the charges, Macdonald resigned, and the contract was cancelled.
