Satchel Paige

Paige, Satchel (Leroy Robert Paige; 1906–1982), U.S. baseball pitcher. Barred as an African-American from the major leagues for most of his career, Paige played with the Negro Leagues. He pitched dozens of no-hitters and was considered one of the greatest pitchers in the game by major league players who faced him in exhibition games. Paige was the first African-American pitcher in the American League, playing with the Cleveland Indians (1948–51) and the St. Louis Browns (1951–53). He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
