Pantomime

Pantomime, drama performed entirely through facial expression, movement, and gesture, without speech. Popular in Roman times, it was developed in Italy by the commedia dell'arte in the 16th century, which created the popular Harlequin and Columbine characters. Popular 20th-century pan-tomimists include Marcel Marceau and Charlie Chaplin.
