George Smith Patton Jr.
Patton, George Smith, Jr. (1885–1945), U.S. general whose ruthlessness and tactical brilliance as a tank commander in World War II won him the nickname Old Blood and Guts. He was highly successful in North Africa and led the Third Army's liberation of France (1944) and thrust into Germany (1945).
