Elizabeth Palmer Peabody
Peabody, Elizabeth Palmer (1804–94), U.S. educator, author, and publisher. She started one of the first U.S. kindergartens (1861) and introduced Friedrich Froebel's methods of education to the United States. She wrote widely on educational theory, published Dial magazine and early works of Nathaniel Hawthorne, and was an exponent of transcendentalism.
