Peasants′ War

Peasants′ War, popular revolt (1524–26) that began in southwestern Germany and spread to many parts of Germany and Austria. The social turmoil created by the Reformation and the decay of Feudalism seems to have been at the root of the discontent. The movement collapsed when Martin Luther denounced the uprising and supported its ruthless suppression.
