Rufus W. Peckham
Peckham, Rufus W. (1838–1909), U.S. jurist and associate justice of the Supreme Court (1896–1909), member of the New York supreme court (1883–86), and state court of appeals (1889–95). Peckham defended property rights and opposed government intervention in business and is known for his opinions in Allgeyer v. Louisiana (1897) and Lochner v. New York (1905), in which the legal concept of due process became standard doctrine.
