Pekingese

Pekingese, toy dog of Chinese origin with a flat, wrinkled face, protruding eyes, and bowed legs. The Pekingese has a long, thick coat of any color with longer hair around the neck and on the tail. It is 6–9 in (15–23 cm) at the shoulder and weighs 6–10 lbs (2.7–4.5 kg). Sacred to Chinese nobility from the 8th century, the breed reached Europe in the 1860s.
