Pennsylvania Dutch

Pennsylvania Dutch (from German Deutsch, “German”), descendants of German-speaking immigrants who came to Pennsylvania during the 17th and 18th centuries in search of religious freedom. They were mainly Lutheran and Reformed Protestant but included such Pietist sects as the Amish, Dunkers, Mennonites, and Moravians, who still retain their original culture.
