Pentecost

Pentecost (Greek, “50th”), Jewish and Christian festivals. The Jewish Pentecost, called Shavuot, celebrated on the 50th day after Passover, is a harvest feast. The Christian Pentecost (Whitsunday in England), the 50th day inclusively after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, marking the birth of the Christian Church.
