Percentage

Percentage, literally by the hundred, numerical computation indicating the ratio of a given number to a total number when the total number is compared to 100, shown by the symbol %. One hundred percent of something is all of it; 1 percent of something is one hundredth part of it. To find what percentage a number is of another, divide the number being compared by the number it is compared to, and multiply the quotient by 100. Percentages are commonly used to express interest rates, scientific data, statistics, market and production figures, and taxes.
