Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
Pestalozzi, Johann Heinrich (1746–1827), Swiss educator. At his school at Yverdon he stressed the importance of the individual and based his methods on the child's direct experience, rather than on mechanical learning. How Gertrude Teaches Her Children (1801) was his most influential work.
