Gaius Petronius Arbiter
Petronius Arbiter, Gaius (d.A.D. 66), Roman satirist. He became Nero's “arbiter of taste,” but fell from favor and committed suicide. “Trimalchio's Dinner” is the best known fragment of his Satyricon, a sensual, amoral, often obscene, and satirical romance, considered the first Roman novel.
