Phenolphthalein

Phenolphthalein, white or yellowish white chemical compound (C₂₀H₁₄O₄) used medicinally as a laxative and as an indicator of alkalies and acids. (Its solution is bright red in alkalies and colorless in acid.) The German chemist Adolf von Baeyer discovered the compound (1871).
