Phidias

Phidias, or Pheidias (500–432 B.C.), perhaps the greatest Greek sculptor, whose work showed the human form idealized and with great nobility. None of his work survives; his reputation rests on contemporary accounts, Roman copies, and on the Parthenon statues made under his direction. Under Pericles he had artistic control over the Acropolis.
