Phosphate

Phosphate, derivative of phosphoric acid, either a phosphate ester or a salt containing phosphate ions. Of many phosphate minerals, the most important is apatite, which is treated with sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid to get superphosphate, the major phosphate fertilizer. Phosphates are used in making glass, soaps, and detergents.
