Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry, method for making measurements for maps or surveys through photographs. Cameras—often mounted on aircraft or space vehicles—take 2 or more shots of the same area from different angles. Land masses as well as the moon are subjects for photogrammetry. A stereoplotter corrects errors in measurements due to photographic distortions. Photogrammetry was developed by a French colonel, Amie Laussedat (1859).
