Józef Pilsudski



Pilsudski, Józef (1867–1935), Polish general and politician. Imprisoned several times for his nationalism, he led a private army against Russia in World War I and directed the Russo-Polish War. He was president of the new Polish republic (1918–22). After a coup d'état in 1926 he became virtual dictator.
