Nicola Pisano

Pisano, Nicola (1210?–1278), Italian sculptor. Inspired by ancient Roman sculpture, he worked in a classical style that anticipates the Renaissance movement. The reliefs he created for the six-sided baptistry in Pisa showing events in Christ's life was his first masterpiece. Other important works include the eight-sided pulpit for the Cathedral of Siena and the fountain at Perugia. His son, Giovanni, helped him design and execute some of his works. Pisano lived in Pisa.
