Molly Pitcher



Pitcher, Molly (Mary Ludwig McCauley; 1754–1832), heroine of the American Revolution. She carried water for the Continental soldiers during the battle of Monmouth, hence her nickname. According to legend, she also took over her husband's rifle when he collapsed.
